An Original Vintage Linenbacked German Stage Play Poster (measures 24 1/2" x 37 1/2" [62 x 95 cm]) (Learn More) a circa 1910s German poster promoting a cabaret performance by Gertrude Barrison was a Danish-born singer, dancer and risque cabaret performer who emigrated to the United States with her family as a child. In the late 1890s, she gained considerable success performing with her four sisters, initially in the United States, but later in European cities. Together they were known as the Five Sisters Barrison. After they separated, Gertrude continued her career as a dancer and dance teacher based in Vienna. She married the Austrian singer and artist Carl Hollitzer with whom she performed at the city's Nachtlicht and Fledermaus cabarets. They divorced in 1910. She passed away in 1946 at the age of 66. AND Carl Leopold Hollitzer (sometimes known as Karl Hollitzer) was an Austrian caricaturist, singer and cabaret artist. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, and from 1906 on, he starred as a singer in the first Viennese cabaret stages, the cabaret Nachtlicht and the Cabaret Fledermaus. His second wife Gertrude Barrison was also a singer and they appeared many times together on the stage of the Cabaret Fledermaus. He passed away in 1942 at the age of 68. Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had tears and paper loss around the edges, with some creases, tears, and tiny paper loss on parts of the folds, and some smudges and scuffs scattered throughout. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was backed onto a very thin linen, and no restoration was performed, and it is separating from the linen around the edges.
