She started in German movies in the 1920s, and then got her big break in Josef von Sternberg's "The Blue Angel", which was made in both a German and an English version. That led to a series of wonderful movies with von Sternberg. Some of her other movies include: Destry Rides Again, Shanghai Express, The Scarlet Empress, A Foreign Affair, Morocco (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Blonde Venus, Touch of Evil, Witness for the Prosecution, and Judgment at Nuremberg. She passed away in 1992 at the age of 90. Important Added Info: Note that this Kodak photo folder has been personally autographed (signed) by Marlene Dietrich (she essentially wrote a letter on the outside of the folder that contained photos). The letter was written by Miss Dietrich to Lillian Gish, who sent her images of her horses, which are contained within the folder. Our consignor purchased this item, which was written to Lillian Gish, in a group of similar items from Kensington Estate Auctions as part of the James Frasher estate (he was Lillian Gish's personal assistant). Our consignor does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we are certain the signature is authentic. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased (although we prefer they do any "authenticating" while the auction is "live" and before they place a bid) and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good.
