An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed 8" x 9 1/2" [20 x 24 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Warner Oland was a Swedish actor from the 1910s to the 1930s. He was best remembered for his starring roles in all the early Fox Charlie Chan movies. 20th Century Fox continued making Chan movies after Oland's, with his substitute Sidney Toler, who, like Oland, was not Asian, but performed in yellowface (though Oland did have Mongolian ancestors). Some of Mr. Oland's other movies include: The Jazz Singer, Shanghai Express, Werewolf in London, and Tell It to the Marines. Oland passed away 1938 at the age of 58 from bronchial pneumonia. He also unfortunately had symptoms of dementia, which may have been related to his alcoholism. Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by Warner Oland! Because the still was slightly trimmed, we don't know what movie it is from. It seems incredibly likely it is from a Charlie Chan movie, but it could be from one of the other movies he made around that time. If anyone knows what movie this is from, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that this still has been trimmed and it now measures 8" x 9 1/2" [20 x 24 cm]. Note that this item was consigned to us by a man who was a major movie memorabilia dealer from the 1980s on. During that time, he would regularly purchase collections of movie memorabilia from both dealers and collectors, and in some of those collections he purchased autographed items, and over the years he did not re-sell any of the autographed items. Now he has gathered up together all of his autographed items and consigned them to us. So all of the items from this consignor we are auctioning were purchased by this dealer from longtime dealers and collectors, and we feel it is quite likely that the autograph on this item is authentic! As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction.
