An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Lew Leslie's Blackbirds, the 1930 Lew Leslie black African American all-black-cast musical stage play ("The musical sensation of two continents"; "Lyrics by Dorothy Fields"; "Music by Jimmy McHugh") starring Berry Brothers, Buck & Bubbles (Ford Washington Lee and John William Sublett; a pair of black African American singers and dancers who appeared in a number of movies in the 1930s and 1940s), Minto Cato, Broadway Jones, Cecil Mack's Choir, Mercer Marquise, Blue McAllister, Flournoy Miller, Mantan Moreland, Jazzlips Richardson, Neeka Shaw, and Ethel Waters. Note that Lew Leslie was a very interesting man! He was white, but he staged shows at the famous Cotton Club (featuring the top black performers of the time), and then had a series of revues called "Blackbirds", which were staged in 1928, 1930, 1933, and 1939. Many of the great black musical stars got their start in a Lew Leslie revue. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. There are some faint scuffs scattered in the image. There is tiny surface paper loss in the second "B" in "BLACKBIRDS" in the title. Other than the above, the card is in pretty nice condition.
