(Learn More) Meet Me in St. Louis, the classic 1944 Vincente Minnelli Missouri family relationship romantic musical ("MGM's glorious love story with music"; "'I've made up my mind... We're going to stay right here!'"; based on the book by Sally Benson; about life in St. Louis, Missouri at the turn of the 20th century, when St. Louis was preparing to host a World's Fair, and the father turns his family's life upside down when he proposes moving to New York City) starring Judy Garland, Margaret O'Brien, Mary Astor, Lucille Bremer, Tom Drake, Chill Wills, Marjorie Main, and Henry H. Daniels Jr. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this pressbook, and it sold for $465! This pressbook is one of the ones created by MGM during World War II, when they had massive paper shortages, and it is not only entirely printed on newsprint, but also some very strange paper that aged poorly. It is uncut (and as far as we can tell, complete, but, as noted above, it can be very hard to tell with these MGM pressbooks made during World War II). We are grading this as "good", but it has likely survived in about as good condition as this ultra rare pressbook could have survived. Note that pressbooks were prepared prior to a movie being released. Often, changes would be made in a movie advertising campaign (billing of actors, different images, etc.), and the theaters would print up special supplements that they would send out with the pressbooks that had already been printed. These supplements are very rare, far more rare than the pressbooks themselves! Some pressbooks would have no supplements, some would have one, and some would have several. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: fair, NO CUTS. In the case of this pressbook, the pages are incredibly fragile and have chipping and paper loss around the edges. Please do not bid on this pressbook thinking it is in better condition than it is.
