An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French "Affiche" Movie Poster (23x32; measures 23 3/4" x 32" [60 x 81 cm]) (Learn More) Les Visiteurs du Soir (released in English-speaking countries as "The Devil's Envoys"), the 1942 Marcel Carne French romantic surreal fantasy melodrama (set in the 15th century, about two visiting minstrels who come to a castle, but they are actually agents of the Devil to entice the inhabitants of the castle, but the daughter of the Baron is so pure that one of the Devil's agents falls in love with her) starring Arletty, Marie Dea, Fernand Ledoux, Alain Cuny, Pierre Labry, and Jules Berry (as "Le diable", the Devil) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this French poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie, and it sold for $665! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had small paper loss at the crossfold and some tiny tears and tiny paper loss scattered in the vertical fold, with a lesser amount on the horizontal fold. It had darkening around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did little restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
