An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" Movie Still (Learn More) A Social Celebrity, the 1926 Malcolm St. Clair silent New York City romantic love triangle melodrama (about a small town barber who falls in love with the manicurist, but she longs to be a dancer, and she goes to New York City, and he follows her; oddly, he is "discovered" by a society matron, and she takes him to a party, posing as a French count; he meets the woman's niece and falls in love with her, but meanwhile, the manicurist is now a successful showgirl, and she is jealous of her former boyfriend, and she exposes him as a fake at a party, and he leaves in disgrace, but the showgirl realizes he really loves her, and follows him back home) starring Adolphe Menjou, Chester Conklin, Louise Brooks, Eleanor Lawson, Roger Davis, and Hugh Huntley. Note that this was Louise Brooks' fourth movie and she had a very lucky break! Initially, she was just cast as one of the manicurists, and Greta Nissen was the lead, but Nissen left the production, and Brooks was elevated to the co-starring role (although she was third billed behind Chester Conklin). Of course, she would become a top star a couple of years later, but then she quit Hollywood at the height of her fame (for the rest of her story, click on her name to read her biography!). Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that a paper snipe was glued to the back of the still, and then folded over to the front. This was done rather than gluing the snipe to the back, so that the snipe could be unfolded and the still could be displayed with the snipe unfolded, which would let moviegoers read the information on the snipe in the lobby (and of course, the snipe would be folded backwards, so it would not show). This was done with many stills of the 1930s, but often, the snipes are either partially or completely lost, because it is easier for them to be torn off. UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED, THE SNIPE DOES NOT HAVE ANY EFFECT ON THE FRONT OF THE STILL! Condition: very good to fine. Learn More about condition grades
