An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) The Big Shakedown, the 1934 John Francis Dillon romantic racketeer crime melodrama (set right after Prohibition was repealed, about a pharmacist who goes into business with a racketeer, making medicines homemade and then packaging them as name brands, and they get rich, but then when the pharmacist wants to quit, the racketeer threatens his wife, but when his wife loses their baby after taking one of their bogus medicines, the pharmacist has had enough) starring Charles Farrell, Bette Davis, Ricardo Cortez, Glenda Farrell, Allen Jenkins, Henry O'Neill, Dewey Robinson, and John Wray NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that ANY U.S. movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a handful of lobby cards and stills from this movie (and NO other U.S. movie paper of any kind) until we received this half-sheet, which is the only U.S. poster from this movie we have ever auctioned! Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thicker paper backing, it CAN'T be sent rolled (someone could conceivably roll it or try to do so, but we know it would definitely lessen its condition, so we will only send it in a very large flat package, unless the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage). What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster was never folded. It had some stains, smudges, and scuffs scattered throughout, including in the stars' faces. It had some pinholes, tears, and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was expertly backed by a talented restorer, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
