An Original Vintage English Campaign Book (measures 11" x 17" [28 x 43 cm]; 34 pages) (Learn More) General Film Distributors 1935-36, the 1935 English campaign book ("This announcement being the first issued by General Films Distributors Ltd.") featuring artwork images of the many top stars who appeared in films that were about to be distributed by General Film Distributors in the 1935-36 season including: Bela Lugosi, Fay Wray, Laurence Olivier, Cedric Hardwicke, Ann Harding, Clive Brook, and others! We are not surprised if you have not heard of "General Film Distributors". We had not either, until we received this very cool campaign book and did research on it. Here is its background: In 1935, the British film distributor C.M. Woolf resigned from Gaumont British and planned to retire (he was 57), but Arthur Rank convinced him to start this company, which would distribute all Universal Pictures titles in England (Rank had acquired those rights by investing in the U.S. Universal company). Solely for 1935-1936 General Film Distributors was its own company, but starting in 1937, it became part of the Rank Organisation, although some of the things it distributed still used its name of General Film Distributors, all the way until 1955. This spiral-bound campaign book is from the very first year this company was founded, and obviously cost a lot to produce, given that it is very large and is filled with artwork images. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this English campaign book! Condition: fair to good. The cover has a plastic sheet on it that has deteriorated down the left. There are stains around the edges of the covers. The interior pages all have a small stain in the top left corner and some have a few other stains, and all have some creases around the edges. See our many images to get a good sense of the exact condition of this ultra rare campaign book. Learn More about condition grades
