Avildsen (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) Philadelphia Pennsylvania boxing sports action romantic melodrama ("His whole life was a million-to-one shot."; "Written by Sylvester Stallone"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award; produced by Irwin Winkler) starring Sylvester Stallone (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Rocky Balboa), Talia Shire (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; as Adrian), Burt Young (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Carl Weathers (as Apollo Creed), Burgess Meredith (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; "as Mickey"), and Butkus Stallone (as Butkus the dog!). Note this film was released late in 1976 and all of the first release U.S. posters have a 1977 NSS number on them. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a licensed commercial poster that was produced by the "Thought Factory" in California in 1976. One would think that they surely sold lots of these, given how popular it was, but we have never auctioned it before, so maybe there was some kind of problem with the poster (it could even be that Stallone did not like this image), and maybe it was withdrawn, but that is strictly a guess. It definitely is rare, but beyond that we are solely guessing. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: fair. The poster is extremely creased and there are pinholes in the corners and tears in the left border with paper loss in the upper left border (see our image).
