An Original Vintage Folded World War I Poster (measures 27 3/4" x 41 1/2" [70 x 105 cm]) (Learn More) My Soldier, the 1917 U.S. World War I (WWI) War Bond poster ("Now I lay me down to sleep I pray the Lord my soul to keep. God Bless my brother gone to war Across the seas, in France, so far. Oh, may his fight for Liberty, Save millions more than little me From cruel fates or ruthless blast, - And bring him safely home at last."; "Buy United States Government Bonds Third Liberty Loan"; "Buy War Saving Stamps and Thrift Stamps"; "4% compounded quarterly") encouraging citizens to purchase war bonds and featuring H.H. Green artwork of a mother having her child say a wartime version of the classic children's bedtime prayer (which had been first recorded in 1711, but which was given new wording appropriate to World War I). Note that there are two versions of this poster. Both use the same art and most of the same text, but the larger one measures 28" x 42", and does not have the "4% Compounded Quarterly" that is on the bottom of the smaller one that measures 14" x 22", and there are some other differences in the bottom text. Artist: H.H. Green Important Added Info: Note that this is one of a remarkable group of around 100 guaranteed authentic mostly war posters (around 75 war posters, plus 25 others, including political ones) mostly dating from before 1900 through 1945, with 15 from after that date! These were originally acquired by an archive decades ago, and they have been in storage ever since, until they were recently consigned to us. Many of these are the sorts of posters that you can find reproductions of on the Internet, but finding guaranteed originals like these is incredibly difficult (years can go by before these are offered for sale or at auction). This is a very rare opportunity to purchase any of these more than 100 posters! Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: fair. The poster was originally folded and someone mounted it onto a very thin linen, with no excess. Either before or after it was backed, it acquired many tears and areas of paper loss around the edges, as well as creases, scuffs, and some small stains scattered in the image, and tape stains in the top border (see our image). Any talented restorer could remove this poster from the old linen and properly re-back it, but bear this in mind before placing a bid on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
