A 1951 Realart Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Frankenstein, the classic 1931 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller ("The monster that terrorized the world!"; "The Man Who Made a Monster"; "Warning! The monster is loose!"; "Based upon the Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley Story"; "Adapted by John L. Balderston from the play by Peggy Webling"; the first of the Universal "Frankenstein" movies, and regarded as one of the finer movies of any genre, in large part due to the marvelous acting of Boris Karloff, and the marvelous direction of James Whale!) starring Colin Clive (as Dr. Herbert V. Frankenstein), Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Edward Van Sloan, Fredric Kerr, Mae Clarke, Dwight Frye (extremely memorable as Fritz), and John Boles NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that the original 1931 title card costs tens of thousands of dollars, if it can be located. For the 1938 re-release, the cards were one color, but this 1951 re-release (just 20 years after the original) has a wonderful full-color image that is completely different from that of the original 1931 card, and yet it can be purchased for far less, making it a VERY attractive alternative to any collector looking to get a great Frankenstein lobby card for their collection! Condition: very good. The card had tiny bits of paper loss in parts of the borders, with some tiny pinholes around the edges, plus one in the monster's cheek (that was extremely tiny), and some of the other tiny pinholes are scattered around the edges of the image. The card had a 1" tear in the center of the top border, with paper loss in the bottom left corner of the image, caused by rough removal of the pins, and a 1/2" tear near the middle of the right blank border. The image area had the tiny pinhole in the monster's cheek, the pinholes and tears that extended into the edges of the image, but was otherwise in nice condition. Overall, the card was in "good to very good" condition before it was restored. Someone had the card "starch backed", and they performed restoration to the back of the card and put some paint on the front of the blank borders. The card completely looks and feels exactly as it did originally, and you can see slight signs of restoration around the edges, but it will display wonderfully on anyone's wall!
