Date Sold 12/19/2023Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Key Largo, the 1948 John Huston crime film noir ("Killer against killer, gun to gun, on the hot spot of the Florida Keys!"; "A cast as explosive as its story!"; "You'll see the performances of your life in the hit of their lives!"; set in the Florida Keys during a hurricane!; based on the hit play by Maxwell Anderson) starring Humphrey Bogart, Edward G. Robinson, Lauren Bacall, Lionel Barrymore, Claire Trevor (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Thomas Gomez, John Rodney, Dan Seymour, Harry Lewis, and Marc Lawrence. Note that this was the final movie in which Humphrey Bogart co-starred with Lauren Bacall. They first met during the filming of "To Have and Have Not" in 1944, and then were married in 1945. They re-teamed for "The Big Sleep" in 1946, and then made "Dark Passage" the following year. They teamed again in for this movie in 1948, but they did not make another movie together, likely having a lot to do with their having two children. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of the 1948 first release insert, and the last one sold for $1,567! However, it seems clear that there were two different printings for this poster. In one, all of the figures are printed in blue ink, and in this one, all the figures are in black ink, and yet, both are surely from 1948. There are many possible explanations for this. One of them would be that it was first created with the blue ink and that someone thought it did not look very good, so they redid it with black ink (and we agree that this black ink one displays much better than the blue ink one). Or there could be other explanations. Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept that there are two different versions of this. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that this poster was folded at one time but because it has been laying flat for a long time our intention is to send it rolled in a tube. However, because we are certain it would not harm it to re-fold it (because the folds are still there and have not diminished), we can also re-fold it if the buyer needs it to be shipped with folded items. Condition: good to very good. The poster has creases in the bottom quarter, scattered through the image. It has some tears in the left border between the middle and bottom folds, with a few other tears in the rest of the borders. It has some creases scattered through the rest of the image. It has some tiny surface paper loss in the background below Bogart's image at top center and some tiny bits of surface paper loss in his shirt. It has a diagonal crease in the middle left that extends into Bacall's cheek. I would think many collectors could display this ultra rare poster as it is, or certainly, restoration could be performed. Learn More about condition grades
