An Autographed Letter (measures 7 1/4" x 10 1/2" [18 x 27 cm]) (Learn More) Darryl F. Zanuck was a screenwriter in the 1920s who became a legendary producer from the 1930s to the 1970s. Some of his movies include: All About Eve, The Grapes of Wrath, How Green Was My Valley, The Longest Day, and Night and the City. He had an unusual beginning! He was born in Wahoo, Nebraska, the result of an affair between the owner of a hotel and the night clerk, and by the time he was 13, he had been abandoned by both his parents, and at 16, he lied about his age and joined the Army, serving in Belgium in World War I. Afterward, he had a series of odd jobs, but then got a job in the movie business, and the rest, as they say, is history! In case you were wondering, the "F" stands for Francis. Zanuck passed away in 1979 at the age of 77. Important Added Info: Note that this letter has been personally autographed (signed) by Darryl F. Zanuck! Zanuck sent the letter on his personal stationery to Harold Norling Swanson (who was a close friend of Zanuck's, and Zanuck called him "Swanie"). Swanson was probably the most important literary agent in Hollywood, representing Chandler, Faulkner, Fitzgerald, Cain, and many more. Zanuck was thanking Swanson for his wire of congratulations after Zanuck won the Academy Award for his film "All About Eve". Our consignor is a longtime collector who purchased this signed item from a reputable dealer in 2006. He does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we believe the signature to likely be authentic.
