An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36") (Learn More) The Day the Earth Stood Still, the classic 1951 Robert Wise science fiction (sci-fi) alien-contact thriller ("From out of space.... a warning and an ultimatum!"; "Strange power from another planet menaces the Earth!"; from the story by Harry Bates; about a super intelligent alien visiting the Earth, and mankind mistrusts him without reason; he is able to "pass" as a human, and he visits the world's greatest scientist, and when he is injured and taken to a hospital, he is rescued by his robot Gort) starring Michael Rennie (as Klaatu), Patricia Neal, Hugh Marlowe, Sam Jaffe, Billy Gray, Frances Bavier, and Lock Martin (as Gort the Robot). Note that the unusual music heard in this movie was achieved through the use of the musical instrument called a theramin, and audiences loved the eerie sounds it made, and it became standard in many science fiction movies thereafter to use this instrument in the same way! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster was machine folded at one time. All of the inserts we are selling this week that were once folded will be sent rolled in tubes, because they have laid flat for a long time, and that has "relaxed" the folds, and it would be a shame to re-fold them, when it is just as easy to send them in a tube. But in the case of THIS poster, laying flat has NOT relaxed the folds (it still easily folds), so we will send this ONE insert folded, because it makes no sense to roll it, since it fits folded in our standard mailers. Condition: very good. The poster was folded in the traditional way, meaning there are three horizontal folds, evenly spaced in the poster. At some time, someone folded the poster by hand 3" above the bottom foldline, and 3" below the top foldline, and there are now rough creases in both those areas. There are some tiny creases on the regular foldlines, pinholes in the corners, and some very minor creases and smudges in the borders. There is a faint diagonal crease in the bottom right corner that goes through Gort's hand and Rennie's shirt, but it is barely noticeable from the front. There is some very tiny surface paper loss in parts of the top foldline and a few faint scuff marks in the image. THIS POSTER IS IN MUCH BETTER CONDITION THAN THE ABOVE MAKES IT SOUND! The two extra folds DO have rough creases across them, but they are really barely noticeable from a normal viewing distance. The poster has had absolutely no restoration on the front or back, and no tape on either front or back. I would think most collectors could very happily display this great poster just as it is. Of course, any talented restorer could easily paperback this poster, and perform minor restoration to the foldlines (the extra folds would surely be greatly diminished solely from the mounting process), and the poster would look fantastic, and there would only be tiny amounts of paint within the image area. IN THIS SPECIAL HALLOWEEN AUCTION, we have given a more detailed overall condition grade along with more details about the condition described in words. Of course, we could not describe every single defect, plus there are some defects (like separation on folds, tape on the back, extremely tiny pinholes, etc) which can be VERY difficult to see, even in our largest "super-sized" image. Therefore we strongly recommend that you BOTH read our written description of the item, AND ALSO look at our super-sized image to see the extent of the defects that we describe and to examine the poster for minor defects that we did NOT describe.
