An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Australian Daybill Movie Poster (db; measures 15" x 39 3/4" [38 x 101 cm]) (Learn More) The Gaunt Stranger (released in the U.S. in 1939 as "The Phantom Strikes"), the 1938 Walter Forde English mystery crime thriller ("Edgar Wallace's greatest comedy thriller!"; "Edgar Wallace's greatest thriller"; "Adapted from Edgar Wallace's 'The Ringer'"; the now familiar story of an unknown villain who announces he is going to kill someone and that no one can stop him, and a police inspector and his surgeon assistant must figure out who it is, but everyone is a suspect) starring Sonnie Hale (billed as "Sonny Hale"), Wilfrid Lawson, Louise Henry, Alexander Knox, and Patricia Roc. Note that this was the fourth time this movie had been remade, and it would be remade several times later! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Frank Tyler Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had pinholes around the edges, with some tears and paper loss in the left blank border, and in the top corners. It had minor wear on the foldlines. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, but at some point after it was backed, it acquired some faint brown dot stains around the edges, mostly in the excess paper, but slightly in the borders of the poster.
