eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result p595 UNCERTAIN GLORY linen one-sheet movie poster '44 Errol Flynn, Lukas Date Sold 3/21/2005Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Uncertain Glory, the 1944 Raoul Walsh World War II (WWII) France romantic crime execution melodrama ("From an Original Story by Joe May and Laszlo Vadnay"; about a Frenchman who is due to be executed by guillotine, and the Germans take 100 French people hostage and threaten to execute them unless they can find out who sabotaged a train, and the Frenchman agrees to confess to that crime, so that he can be shot by the Germans instead of guillotined by his own people!) starring Errol Flynn, Paul Lukas, Jean Sullivan, Lucile Watson, Faye Emerson, James Flavin, Francis Pierlot, and Douglass Dumbrille. Note that the guillotine is commonly associated with the French Revolution, and the 18th Century, but many people do not realize that it remained the method of execution in France all the way until 1977 (although public guillotines were banned in 1939, after which executions occurred in prison courtyards)! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good. This poster was linenbacked, but it was either NOT linenbacked by a very talented restorer, OR it was linenbacked many years ago, and has received rough handling over the years, OR it had fairly significant defects that were not restorated at all. If it was restored, you can clearly see signs of the restoration even from a distance. This is a poster that would greatly benefit from additional professional restoration. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had paper loss in Flynn's cheek and Lukas' upper lip at center, and a very amateur restorer crudely painted over those areas. Otherwise, the poster had pinholes and tears around the edges of the poster and some other scattered defects throughout. The poster was not well linenbacked, and if I owned the poster, I would either have additional restoration, or better yet, have the poster re-backed. Learn More about condition grades
