An Original Vintage Linenbacked French Red Cross Poster (measures 23 3/4" x 31 1/4" [60 x 79 cm]) (Learn More) Nous Voulons Vivre, Aidez-Nous (literally translates to "We Want to Live, Help Us"), the 1917 French Red Cross poster (with taglines that translate to "Human and Citizen Rights 1789"; "80,000 French babies perish each year") published by the American Red Cross to encourage donations to combat high infant mortality. Note that this poster features great Stephany art of a baby emerging from a cabbage patch and holding a book about the Declaration of the Rights of the Man and of the Citizen of 1789 (a human civil rights document from the French Revolution). Artist: R. Stephany Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had darkened (typical of French posters of this period) and it had some tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss around the edges, with a 1" tear in the top border and two tiny circular punch holes in the left border. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was mounted onto a very thin linen with no excess. After it was mounted, it was roughly handled, and it acquired a slightly diagonal horizontal crease across the lower part of the image. If I owned this really cool poster, I would surely have it properly re-backed onto regular linen, after which, it will display really well! Learn More about condition grades
