A 1947 Re-Release Theatrical Movie Lobby Card #7 (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Thief of Bagdad, the classic 1940 Ludwig Berger, Michael Powell & Tim Whelan English Arabia Iraq romantic love triangle magic adventure fantasy thriller ("Thrill to the marvel picture of the year!"; "Three brave hearts... adventuring in a wonder world"; "Adventure of the masked men!"; "Adventure of the wonderful web!"; "Adventure of the all-seeing eye!"; "Never before such a screen thrill! ...two years to film, a fortune to produce... Alexander Korda's greatest achievement!"; "One thousand and one sights from the thousand of one nights...."; "Sir Alexander Korda's masterpiece of fantasy and adventure."; "Gigantic! The wonder picture of all time!"; "He fought the world to hold her loveliness within his daring arms!"; "The adventure of the masked magician!"; "The adventure of the all-seeing eye!"; "The adventure of the wonderful web!"; "In magic Technicolor!"; "produced in England and the U.S. by Alexander Korda with wondrous special effects by Lawrence W. Butler and Tom Howard, and great art direction by William Cameron Menzies") starring Conrad Veidt (memorable as Jaffar), Sabu Dastagir ("Sabu, famous star of screen hits 'Elephant Boy' and 'Drums' as the daring Thief of Baghdad... living, fighting, adventuring in a magic world!"; billed as "Sabu", as he was in all his movies; as Abu the thief, son of Abu the thief, grandson of Abu the thief, etc.!), June Duprez (as the princess), John Justin (as Ahmad), Rex Ingram (sensational as The Genie!), Mary Morris (as Halima, the animated statue!), Miles Malleson (as the Sultan of Basra), Morton Selten (as the old king), and Allan Jeayes (as the narrator). Note that this movie featured sensational "special effects" for its day, and had several wonderful sequences that looked like they required the building of massive sets, yet in most cases, matte paintings created the illusion of those massive sets! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that when this classic movie was released in 1940, the people who picked the lobby card scenes did not know how memorable Conrad Veidt's performance was, and he is only on one scene lobby card, and that is from the back! This great card from the 1947 re-release, which is in full color, has a wonderful close up of Conrad Veidt and June Duprez, which of course is not in the original set. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good to very good. The card has a slightly diagonal scratch in the bottom center of the image, fortunately in the background between the stars. There is surface paper loss at the bottom of the scratch. There is a crease under it that continues to the bottom border. There is a 1" tear to the right of the bottom of the crease that has creases and tiny stains next to it, and those defects extend into the very bottom of the "TE" above it. There are creases in the top blank border and a faint 2" horizontal crease in Duprez's hair to the left of her ear. There is another faint crease in the bottom of her hair. There is a tiny pair of staple holes in both left corners. In spite of all these defects, the card displays well as it is, and it has never had any restoration. One could certainly display it as is, or one could choose to have restoration performed. Either way, the new owner of this card will have a great image to display on their wall!
