A Vintage Softcover Book (measures 8" x 10 3/4" [20 x 27 cm]; 350 pages) (Learn More) Hollywood Screen Legends, a 1965 softcover book that included five issues of unsold magazines from a single publisher. What happened is, the publisher of Screen Legends magazine, Sound Stage magazine, and maybe others, discovered that they had LOTS of unsold issues, so they had a cover printed that five issues could be bound into, and they just made lots of these, each containing different groups of magazines! We have seen three different variations, and in each case they have the exact same outer cover bound around the five magazines (which do not have the covers), and they have different interiors. This was certainly a creative way to repackage unsold material, but we have a feeling it was not very successful. Each issue of the magazines included presented complete, factual and exciting accounts, in story and pictures, of Hollywood's greatest stars and events. The publisher did what many other publishers have done over the years. Likely, these were sold as "books" (having the magazines already printed greatly lowered the cost of creating each book, and they sold it for just $1, which maybe helped sales, but maybe not!)
