Jiggs and Maggie in Jackpot Jitters, the 1949 William Beaudine comedy ("Based on the original newspaper feature by George McManus Copyrighted by King Features Syndicate") starring George McManus, Renie Riano (in the title role as Maggie), George McManus (billed as "Cartoonist George McManus"), Joe Yule (in the title role as Jiggs), June Harrison, Tim Ryan, Pat Goldin, and Willie Best. George McManus was the cartoon genius who started "Bringing Up Father" in 1913. Before that, he had drawn some other newspaper comic strips including a series of "Let George Do It" strips. In 1916, animated cartoons were adapted from "Bringing Up Father", but they were not very successful. In 1924, the Stern Brothers signed to do a series of live action adaptations of the "Let George Do It" cartoons, and they were very successful, spawning a long series, and two years later, there were live action "Bringing Up Father" movies. In 1946, a new series of live action movies started, and it was also popular, spawning several sequels.
