An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Mexican Movie Poster (measures 26 3/4" x 36 1/2" [68 x 93 cm]) (Learn More) Cortesana (literally translates to "Courtesan"), the 1948 Alberto Gout Mexican romantic love triangle melodrama (about a woman caught in a love triangle, which leads to dancing, extortion and murder) starring Meche Barba (billed as "Mercedes Barba"), Crox Alvarado, Gustavo Rojo, Ruben Rojo, Tona La Negra, Daniel 'Chino' Herrera (billed as "El Chino Herrera"), and Blanca Estela Pavon. It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Jose Espert Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned three examples of this poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this Mexican movie! One of those three examples has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still only one of three examples we have ever auctioned! Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 26 3/4" x 36 1/2" [68 x 93 cm]. Note that this is one of a remarkable collection of 81 Mexican posters we are currently auctioning (in 81 separate auctions). They include many of the absolute best ones, including many Cabrals, and were assembled by a single collector over many years! This is a rare opportunity to add one or more of these posters to your collection! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: poor to fair. The poster had minor fold and border wear. The borders were slightly trimmed either before or after it was backed (see below). Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame. It appears that the blank borders of the poster were slightly trimmed, either before or after the poster was backed, so bear this in mind before bidding. Unfortunately, after it was backed, it was first displayed, and the reds in the poster faded noticeably. In addition, it acquired water staining in the bottom 3-4". This caused the poster to separate from the linen in that area and it darkened the front. Please bear the above really major defects in mind before bidding on this poster.
