Date Sold 8/5/2010Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Linenbacked Travel Poster (measures 20" x 28 1/2" [51 x 72 cm]) (Learn More) Sail to Japan, the circa 1960s poster ("Via American Mail Line"; "Cargo liners from the Pacific Northwest") encouraging travel to the island of Japan by way of American Mail Line. It seems that these cargo ships carried mail (U.S. Mail) to Japan and that people could go along as passengers. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that a collector sent us an image of a print ad for this company which is dated from 1930, so it is quite possible that this poster is from much earlier than we first believed (although of course, it is possible that the company was still in business much later). It is interesting to note that the ad shows a round-the-world cruise on the American Mail Line only cost $1370 in 1930! Condition: very good to fine. The poster was never folded and had the most minor of border defects. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, and looks great!
