A 1951 Realart Re-Release Theatrical Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Dracula, the classic 1931 Tod Browning Universal vampire monster horror thriller ("The Greatest of all Horror Thrillers"; "The Vampire Thriller!"; "The story of the strangest passion the world has ever known!"; "Do vampires really exist?"; "From the famous novel & play by Bram Stoker") starring Bela Lugosi (in the title role as Count Dracula), David Manners, Helen Chandler, Dwight Frye (if there had been a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award in 1931, Frye would have surely won it for his wild over-the-top portrayal as Renfield!), Edward Van Sloan (as Professor Abraham Van Helsing), Frances Dade, and Herbert Bunston NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this 1951 Realart re-release half-sheet, and it sold for $715 in "good" condition! Note that this poster has been "gel backed". What does that mean? It means that a talented restorer backed the poster onto a gel material, and they then performed restoration to the above defects, and then removed the gel backing, and afterward the poster still looks and feels like an original poster (and it is!), with no backing at all. Many collectors prefer this method of restoration to paperbacking or linenbacking, because with those methods the poster no longer looks like it was not backed. Gel backing can't be used with posters that have major paper loss or other major defects, but for the posters it can be used on, it is really an excellent method of restoration! Note that this poster was gel backed, and while it could be rolled and sent in a tube, we would worry that doing so would either damage the poster or bring back the folds. Therefore, we would much prefer to send it in a large flat package. However, if the new buyer insists, we will send it in a tube, but only if they accept responsibility for doing so. What IS gelbacking? Learn More Condition: very good. The poster had small paper loss at the crossfold and some creases and tiny bits of paper loss on parts of the folds. It had some pinholes, darkening, small tears, and small paper loss in the borders. It had a 5" tear in the bottom border extending through the red to the right of the "Y" of "STORY" and going up to the bottom of the first "A" of "DRACULA". Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to restoration. A talented restorer gel backed the poster and performed excellent restoration to the above defects. You can see slight signs of the restoration, but the poster displays really well! Learn More about condition grades
