An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

East of Java, the 1935 George Melford shipwreck adventure melodrama ("The story of a daredevil derelict gambling his life for love"; "This is the picture! Bickford Badly Torn by Lions"; "Furious drama of derelicts shipwrecked off Simba Sao!"; "Adapted from 'Tiger Island' by Gouverneur Morris"; about a group of people shipwrecked on a deserted island having to fight off lions and tigers that were part of the ship's cargo) starring Charles Bickford, Elizabeth Young, Frank Albertson, Leslie Fenton, Clarence Muse, Siegfried Rumann, and Jay Gilbuena. Note that in order to make this movie seem "extra real", scenes were filmed showing the stars interacting with real life lions and tigers, but that almost turned disastrous when star Charles Bickford was "badly torn" by lions he was acting with. But never one to waste a good opportunity, the studio made one of the two styles of half-sheets showing close up art of a lion mauling Bickford, and put an image of the newspaper headline that came out after that occurred, with a tagline that read "This is the picture!", knowing people would want to see somebody really attacked by a lion!
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this is the style of half-sheet described above, which capitalized on Bickford's near-catastrophic encounter with a lion! Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube.

Condition: very good to fine. The poster has very minor wear on the folds. It has a 1/2" of separation at the right end of the middle fold. Otherwise, the poster is in really nice condition!
