A Linenbacked Travel Poster (measures 25" x 40 1/4" [64 x 102 cm]) (Learn More)

TWA: India, the 1950s - 1960s (see below) airline airplane aviation travel poster ("Fly TWA") encouraging people to use TWA (Trans World Airlines) when traveling to India. Note that this poster features David Klein artwork of a bejeweled elephant. As was common with travel posters, there are multiple versions of this poster which have the same Klein artwork, but feature a different airplane. The 1950s version shows a Lockheed Constellation propeller-driven aircraft, while the 1960s version shows the outline of a jet.

Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned an earlier example of this travel poster (it was from the 1950s, while this poster has almost the exact same image from the 1960s), and it sold for $980!

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had paper loss in the bottom left corner underneath the yellow and blue border, and it affected the green pattern border all the way from the bottom left corner to 6" from the left border. Otherwise, the poster was in pretty good condition prior to linenbacking. The person who restored the poster did a quite nice job of replacing the missing area at bottom left, and the poster displays pretty well, but you can see some signs of the restoration.
