She was a very intelligent woman who invested heavily in real estate at just the right time, and when she passed away in 1979 at the age of 84, she was one of the wealthiest women in the world, with a fortune estimated at $150 million! Some of her movies include: The Garden of Eden, The Divine Lady (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), and Paradise Alley. In addition to acting, she wrote several books, most notably "Papa's Delicate Condition" in 1952, which was about her father, a Methodist minister. In 1963, she sold the rights to the movie version of the book, and she wanted Fred Astaire to play her father, but the studio chose Jackie Gleason, and she greatly disliked the movie!
