eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 5y0515 VIA MALA German 34x48 1944 Hardt & everyone wants tyrant father Karl Wery dead, beyond rare! Date Sold 2/13/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original 1944 (from the aborted first release of this movie; see below) Vintage Theatrical Folded German Movie Poster (measures 34" x 48" [86 x 122 cm]) (Learn More) Via Mala (literally translates to "The Bad Way"), the 1948 Josef von Baky German crime thriller melodrama (about a tyrannical father who bullies his family but later goes missing; his daughter is investigated for his murder but the officer falls in love with her, compromising the investigation; it is later found out that an innkeeper killed the man, but the entire village forgives him since they all wanted to kill the tyrant!) starring Karin Hardt, Viktor Staal, Karl Kuhlmann, Karl Wery, and Hilde Korber. Note that this film was completed in 1945 but the Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda demanded that the ending be changed (the original ending depicted the entire family killing the tyrannical father!). This was done and it was accepted for release but then the censors changed their minds. Because of this, the only 1945 release of this movie was in the small Austrian town where filming took place and a wider release was delayed until 1948! Artist: Hans Otto Wendt Important Added Info: Note that movie paper from this film is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single movie paper item from this movie until we were consigned this poster (which is a "country of origin" poster for this German movie!). NOT ONLY THAT, BUT THIS POSTER IS FROM THE INTENDED 1945 RELEASE (but it was printed in 1944). So that makes it even more rare and unusual, and it may well be the only poster to survive from that aborted first release! It was printed in Germany during World War II (but it was not widely released until after the war - see above). There are very few German movie posters from during World War II in existence (because of the massive paper shortages in Germany during World War II), and most of those few are in museums. It is likely that German posters from during the Nazi era are even more rare than those from before that era, because most of those that survived the war would have been destroyed right after the war! Condition: very good. There are tiny pinholes in the corners and a few small tears in the borders, with a tape repair on the back. Learn More about condition grades
