eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 8j090 BRAND X 33x47 special '70 Win Chamberlain's absurd political comedy, wacky art! Date Sold 6/30/2015Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Unfolded Special Poster (measures 33" x 47" [84 x 119 cm]) (Learn More) Brand X, the 1970 Win Chamberlain outrageous political black comedy ("The movie for people"; "Music by Ken Lauber"; a series of pretty unrelated skits on a fictional TV network, and many of them are beyond outrageous, and are certainly designed to offend absolutely everybody and includes many skits that could never be filmed or shown today) starring Taylor Mead (a son of a wealthy family and a stock broker, who "dropped out" and worked with Andy Warhol), Sally Kirkland, Tally Brown, Frank Cavestani, Abbie Hoffman (in his first movie, and he would, of course, go on to great fame as one of the founders of The Yippies, and a member of the Chicago Seven), Candy Darling, Joy Bang, Ultra Violet (the three previous became well known for their participation in Andy Warhol movies), Carlos Anduze, Sam Shepard (in his very first movie!; he quit acting and became a famous playwright and then resumed his acting career in 1978 in "Days of Heaven", and had substantial success in both fields), Jim Huff, Madalyn Lloyd, Jim Maya, Serge Bouterline, Sam Ridge, John Rainer Long (billed as "John Long"), and Susannah Baumgart. Note that this movie is almost completely forgotten today (and almost surely never shown publicly), but it had a great influence on counter culture movies of the 1970s, especially The Groove Tube and The Kentucky Fried Movie, and also, of course, TV shows like Saturday Night Live and Second City TV (SCTV). Finally, note that poster material of any kind for this movie is beyond rare, almost surely because it only played in an extremely limited number of theaters (we only know for sure that it played at the Elgin Theatre in New York City in 1970). Because we have auctioned it, we know that the Elgin Cinema had a poster created that measures 33 1/4" x 47 1/4", and it has wonderful full-color art by Gilbert Shelton, and the character he drew is clearly one of his "Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Gilbert Shelton Condition: fair to good. The poster was nearly torn in half vertically and has been repaired with tape from the back. There are some creases, pinholes, areas of paper loss and tears of varying lengths around the edges of the poster. Please see our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of this item prior to placing a bid and please do not bid unless you can accept the defects described above, or you are willing to pay to have them properly restored.
