A 1934 Re-Release Theatrical Paperbacked Style A Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Men Without Law, the 1930 Louis King south-of-the-border cowboy western ("Buck Jones in a Whirlwind All Talking Western"; "Thrilling all-talking western"; about a cowboy who discovers his brother has joined an outlaw gang, and when they go to Mexico and kidnap the beautiful daughter of a rancher, he rescues the daughter and breaks up the gang, and wins the girl) starring Buck Jones, Thomas Carr, Carmelita Geraghty, Lydia Knott, and Harry Woods. Note that Buck Jones' white horse was named Silver (just like The Lone Ranger's later on!), and Silver made 73 movies with Buck Jones from 1922 until Jones' death in 1942 in the tragic Cocoanut Grove fire. But oddly, Silver was almost never billed on the posters for Buck Jones' movies as so many other famous horses (most especially Tom Mix's Tony) were! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that Columbia Pictures in the 1930s and 1940s would often give their major successes a full-scale second re-release a few years after the first release (in the case of this movie, four years later). They would either print the exact same posters from the original plates in full color, solely altering the copyright date, or, they would create brand new art different from that of the first release (which is true in this case), and they would put the re-release date in the bottom left copyright area, but without indicating that the poster was a re-release, which would cause the poster to years later be sold as first release, by people who did not check the original release date of the movie. This IS the 1934 re-release half-sheet for this movie, with completely different art from that of the 1930 first release half-sheet. Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had creases, scuffs, and some fine surface paper loss on both folds, and some pinholes and tiny paper loss around the edges, with a 1 1/2" tear in the right of the bottom border. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
