An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Vertical British Quad Movie Poster (BQ; Quad Crown; measures 30" x 40" [76 x 102 cm]) (Learn More) Good for the Gout, the 1913 Edward J. Collins English silent medical comedy hypochondria short ("Pick of the world's best pictures"; about a hypochondriac believing he has gout; his daughter promises to marry her sweetheart if he cures her father's imaginary illness, so the sweetheart poses as "Dr. Slashem" and he tricks the hypochondriac into thinking he's undergoing a terrifying surgery involving amputation; terrified, the hypochondriac runs home and realizes he could not possibly have gout, and when he learns of the well-intended ruse he consents to their marriage!) starring John E. Brennan, and Ruth Roland. Note that at the time this movie was made gout was known as the "rich man's disease", because it was believed to be caused by eating lots of fatty foods, and it was a common complaint at that time, so it made a good subject for this comedy short! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster was folded at one time, but it has been stored flat, and because it is extremely fragile we are not refolding it and it will be sent rolled in a tube. Also note that movie paper from this film is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single movie paper item from this movie until we were consigned this poster! Also note that few people know that in the early days of British quads, they were originally in a vertical format (but they measured 30" x 40", just as they continue to do throughout the years). This is because so few of them survive, almost surely because of the massive paper shortages in England during World War II! At some point in the 1950s, they changed orientation to be horizontal, and they have remained that way to the present day. Finally note that this is an extremely rare pre-World War II English poster! Virtually no English posters survive from the 1940s or earlier, because during World War II there were many paper shortages resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters! Condition: fair. The poster is extremely fragile and it has darkened around the edges. There are scuffs and tears in the man's face and there is an irregular tear in the bottom center. The poster has really significant defects, so bear them in mind and look at our super-sized image before bidding. Learn More about condition grades
