eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result MOON OF ISRAEL A 1sh Appears in Hershenson Pressbook CollectionThe image at right is provided for reference purposes and we do not we have it available for purchase, nor do we know of anyone who does! Die Sklavenkonigin (released in the U.S. in 1927 as "Moon of Israel"), the 1924 Michael Curtiz Austrian/English silent Biblical Jewish-exodus-from-Egypt epic ("Colossal! Stupendous! Astounding!"; "And the Mightiest Love Story of the Ages!"; "From the famous novel by Sir H. Rider Haggard"; presented by Joseph P. Kennedy, father of John F. Kennedy and his brothers!) starring Maria Corda, Arlette Marchal, Adelqui Migliar, Ferdinand Onno, Oscar Beregi Sr., Henry Mar, and "with a cast of 50,000". Note that this was one of the 64 movies Michael Curtiz directed in Hungary and other European countries before arriving in the U.S. in 1926. The following year, FBO Pictures bought the rights to this 1924 Michael Curtiz movie, and released it in the U.S., billing him under his American name of Michael Curtiz. Note that the reason the movie had not been released in 1924 was because Cecil B. DeMille had just made "The Ten Commandments", and he did not want this movie with a similar plot (and some said it was superior!) to be released in the U.S., and he was able to keep it from being released for three years! Finally, note that star Maria Corda was a major Hungarian silent film actress who moved to Germany, where she was directed by Alexander Corda, who she married. At the height of her fame, he was mostly known as her director! But when sound came in, her career diminished greatly, and they were divorced in 1932, and he changed his name to Alexander Korda, and became one of the most famous British producers ever!
