An Original Vintage English 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" [9 x 14 cm] Postcard (Learn More)

The Epic of Everest, the 1924 J.B.L. Noel English silent adventure mountain climbing documentary featuring Andrew Irvine, and George Mallory. Note that this film documented the 1924 British Mount Everest expedition during which both Irvine and Mallory disappeared. Their disappearance has given rise to the long-standing speculation of whether or not the pair might have reached the summit. Mallory's body was found in 1999 at 26,760 ft, but the resulting clues did not provide any conclusive evidence as to whether the summit was reached.
Important Added Info: What a wonderful postcard this is! When the 1924 Mount Everest expedition was undertaken, filmmakers signed to make a movie of it. They gave out postcards prior to the premiere that were taken from the base camp of the expedition and then "dispatched by Postal Runner to India", and then mailed from India to people in England with a "Mount Everest Expedition" stamp on the front (and that stamp has "reverse" swastikas in the corners, because, of course, the symbol had not yet been co-opted by the Nazis!), in addition to a regular stamp, and the postcard has printed on it "The Film of this great Exploit will be shown throughout the country, commencing at the Scala Theatre, London November, 1924." And in addition to all of the above, this English postcard has been signed by the director, J.B.L. Noel!

Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single movie paper item from this movie until we received this postcard! Our consignor is a longtime dealer who acquired this signed item among many other purchases in his inventory, and he does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we believe the signature to likely be authentic.
