Short wave radio solves $2,000,000 gold robbery! Walkie-Talkie raiders terrorize metropolis! The lady detective is beautiful!"; "Based on the story by Gerard Fairlie") starring Walter Pidgeon (in the title role as Bulldog Drummond), Margaret Leighton, Robert Beatty, David Tomlinson, and Peggy Evans. Note that "Bulldog Drummond" was a fictional English detective who was created in 1920 in a magazine story by H.C. McNeile, who wrote under the pen name of "Sapper" He appeared in ten novels, short stories, and even stage plays. When McNeile passed away in 1937, his friend, Gerard Fairlie, wrote more stories between 1938 and 1954, and after that, other authors created even more stories. Drummond was a World War I veteran who is bored and becomes an amateur detective, and he marries his first client, who becomes his assistant. The first movie based on this character was in 1923, with Carlyle Blackwell in the lead role. There was one more silent with Jack Buchanan in the lead, and then Ronald Colman starred in the first sound version in 1929. There were 13 movies in the 1930s, many with John Howard in the lead role. The character was revived in 1947, and 5 movies were made between 1947 and 1951, with Ron Randell, Tom Conway, and Walter Pidgeon playing the leads. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
