An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded German Movie Poster (measures 25" x 37 3/4" [64 x 96 cm]) (Learn More) Hexenfeuer (released in English-speaking countries as "Gipsy Hate"), the 1912 German silent gypsy dancing stage romantic love triangle melodrama (about a Romani dancer who flees an arranged marriage and travels to the city because she loves a dance-hall manager, but her father and betrothed follow and confront her after her debut performance of a 'fire dance', and when she tries to run her dress catches fire and she dies) starring Saharet. Saharet was an Australian dancer who performed in vaudeville music houses, stage productions in the United States and Europe, and several German films. Note that this film was distributed by Messter Film. Oskar Messter was an innovative German film pioneer, and in 1896, a year after the Lumiere brothers showed the first film, Messter developed the first Maltese cross projector, opened the first German film studio and opened the second movie theater in Berlin (after the first one opened that same year by the Lumieres themselves). Messter Film was one of the dominant German producers before the rise of UFA, into which it was ultimately merged. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only auctioned one example of this poster before! Also note that this is an extremely rare German poster from before World War II! Virtually no German posters survive from before World War II since apparently there were many paper shortages in Europe during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all posters from before and World War II, and also from during the war, and the first few years afterwards. Also note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this German movie! Condition: good. The poster has scuffs, smudges and a few stains. It has creases, defects, areas of paper loss and tears of varying lengths along parts of some edges. Learn More about condition grades
