An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Wizard of Oz, the classic 1939 Victor Fleming family magical fantasy adventure musical ("MGM's miracle musical show of shows!"; "It's Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's Technicolor triumph!"; "Magnificent in its brilliant Technicolor splendor!"; "At Last It's Here Biggest Sensation Since "Snow White"!"; "The mighty miracle show that is the talk of America!"; "Amazing sights to see! The Tornado, Munchkinland, Horse of a Different Color, Startling Balloon Ascent, The Flying Monkeys, The Tree That Throws Apples"; "Gaiety! Glory! Glamour!"; based on the classic book of the same name by L. Frank Baum; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Judy Garland (as Dorothy), Frank Morgan (in the title role as The Wizard of Oz!), Ray Bolger (as The Scarecrow), Bert Lahr (as The Cowardly Lion), Jack Haley (as The Tin Man), Billie Burke (as Glinda, the Good Witch), Margaret Hamilton (as the Wicked Witch), Charley Grapewin, "The Munchkins", and Toto too! Note that MGM was worried about how well this movie would do at the box office, and they did something we don't remember seeing on any other major movie advertising! One of the taglines says "Biggest sensation since Snow White", which means MGM was advertising a Walt Disney movie, but that shows just how worried they were! Of course, they needn't have worried, because this was a timeless classic that has only improved with age. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this lobby card has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the lobby card was backed onto a very light paper backing (acid-free), that keeps the "feel" of the lobby card similar to that of the original lobby card. Some restorers prefer to paperback lobby cards on to a heavy backing, while others prefer to use a very lightweight backing. The advantage of a lightweight backing is that the card still "feels" like a regular lobby card, but a heavier backing makes restoration easier to do and less noticeable. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. Prior to paperbacking, the card had been displayed and the reds in the card had become considerably lighter. In addition, there were light stains in Morgan's forehead at top center, faint fine scuff marks scattered through the image, including in the stars, and some stains scattered in the letters of the title. There was an irregular 5" tear in the bottom center of the image going through Garland's slippers. There were some other creases, stains, small tears, and scuffs scattered throughout the card. The card had tiny paper loss in the top left corner and paper loss in the bottom right blank corner, with a crease above that loss. The owner of the card had a restorer paperback it (surely solely to stabilize the card), and the restorer did no restoration other than replace the two small bits of paper loss in the two blank corners. All the other defects remain, and while one could still display this card as it is, I would think many people would prefer to have additional restoration performed, which can surely be done without re-backing the card. The new owner can choose whether to leave it as it is or to perform additional restoration, and how much. Please bear all of the above in mind and look closely at our super-sized image before bidding on this card. Learn More about condition grades
