An Undated (probably late 1940s or early 1950s) Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Argentinean Movie Poster (measures approximately 29" x 43") (Learn More)

Tom & Jerry Reyes De La Risa (literally translates to "Tom and Jerry: Kings of Laughter"), the 1950s Argentinean animated animation cartoon compilation. Note that this is a literal translation of the title, and that this may in fact be a repackaging or re-titling of one of the many other Tom & Jerry compilations from other countries. Note that the images on this poster are far more violent (and far more true to the spirit of the actual cartoons!) than the bland U.S. posters from the same time period! Note that Tom and Jerry is a classic series of cartoons created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. The first one was created in 1940, and there as a total of 114 cartoons through 1957. Seven of these won Academy Awards for Best Cartoon, tying for most wins with Walt Disney's Silly Symphonies. There were around 50 more cartoons created after the first run ended, through the early 2000s, and there were also TV shows based on these classic characters. Some people have criticized the cartoons for their "excessive violence", but actually no blood or gore was ever shown in any of them, and this type of violence is commonly referred to as "cartoon violence". Many of the Tom and Jerry cartoons are extremely clever and make wonderful use of music. They are not nearly as appreciated today as they should be, but in their day, they were among the most popular cartoons of the 1940s! Finally, note that there is 1960s & 1970s Argentinean posters that have this exact same name on it they could be a re-release of this compilation, or it could be an entirely different compilation that they used the same name for. If anyone knows more about this movie or this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Important Added Info: This Argentinean poster measures approximately 29" x 43" and is linenbacked. Note that this was a stock poster sent to Argentinean theaters that were showing Tom and Jerry cartoons. They could display this poster anytime they showed a cartoon. Note that this poster is far more violent (and far more true to the spirit of the actual cartoons!) than the bland U.S. posters from the same time period!

Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had very minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were well restored, OR it had some minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!).

The poster had creases, smudges, and small tears on most foldlines. There were pinholes around the edges of the poster. The poster was well backed, but you can see signs of the restoration on the top foldline, even from a distance.
