An Unfolded Special Poster (measures 23" x 35" [58 x 89 cm]) (Learn More) The American Freedom Train was actually two trains, one toured the United States from 1947 to 1949, and the other from 1975 to 1976 (to celebrate the United States Bicentennial). Each train had its own special red, white and blue paint scheme and its own itinerary and route around the 48 contiguous states, stopping to display Americana and related historical artifacts. The 1940s Freedom Train exhibit was integrated, and black and white viewers were allowed to mingle freely. When town officials in several southern areas refused to allow blacks and whites to see the exhibits at the same time, the Freedom Train skipped the planned visits, amid significant controversy. Artist: H. Smelcher Condition: good to very good. The poster has a large snipe glued in the blank area at bottom. It is otherwise in pretty nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
