An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" Movie Still (Learn More) Joseph Schildkraut was an Austrian actor from the 1910s to the 1960s. He was the son of a famous actor, and he began acting in Germany in the 1910s. In 1921, he went to the U.S. and got a role in D.W. Griffith's Orphans of the Storm, which led to major U.S. stardom. He also acted on the stage, but in the early 1930s, he returned to Hollywood, and he seamlessly made the transition from leading man to character actor. Some of his other movies include: The Shop Around the Corner, The Life Of Emile Zola (winner of the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), and The Diary of Anne Frank. He passed away in 1964 at the age of 67. Important Added Info: Note that this portrait still is from the movie "The Shop Around the Corner" and that it is on a much heavier than normal weight paper. Also note that there is a printed snipe on the back of the still, describing the scene on the front (there is also an approved stamp dated "NOV 30 1939"). Condition: fine.
