An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan's Revenge, the 1938 D. Ross Lederman romantic jungle adventure thriller ("Story by Edgar Rice Burroughs"; "Screen Play by Robert Lee Johnson and Jay Vann") starring Glenn Morris (in the title role as Tarzan), Eleanor Holm (as Jane), George Barbier, C. Henry Gordon, and Hedda Hopper. Note that this movie (produced by Sol Lesser) was essentially a loose remake of the original Tarzan of the Apes story, with characters changing names and an Arab sheik trying to kidnap the female lead. Glenn Morris was an Olympic decathlon champion and Eleanor Holm was an Olympic swimmer, and their lack of acting experience shows. Some have called this the "worst" of the Tarzan movies, and others find it fairly entertaining! It was Glenn Morris' only appearance as Tarzan.

Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned four examples of this one-sheet, but the last one was 10 years ago, when it sold for $465!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. Someone put a pen or pencil "X" mark in the center of Morris' face, in his nose and entering his mouth (see our super-sized image). The poster had paper loss at the crossfolds, with some small tears and tiny paper loss on the rest of the folds. It had some pinholes, tears, and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. The person who backed the poster did a pretty good job, but they really did not address the marks on Morris' face. Certainly, another restorer could do that, but it would require paint restoration in his nose and mouth, so bear this significant defect in mind before bidding on this poster.
