Date Sold 4/2/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card #6 (LC; measures 10 3/4" x 14" [27 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Shanghai Chest, the 1948 William Beaudine China Asian detective mystery crime thriller ("Suggested by Earl Derr Biggers' character"; about a series of murders where a dead man's fingerprints are found at each crime scene) starring Roland Winters ("as Charlie Chan"), Mantan Moreland, Victor Sen Yung (billed as "Victor Sen Young"), Tim Ryan, Deannie Best, John Alvin, Willie Best, George Eldredge, Russell Hicks, and Pierre Watkin. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good. There are some pinholes in the top of the image, more so at top left, with faint scuffs scattered throughout the image, but none affecting the stars' faces. Approximately 1/4" was trimmed from the top blank border. There are two pieces of tape on the back of the center of two borders, but they were not put there for any restoration purpose.
