Auction History Result 6f255 SOUTHERN YANKEE 11 8x10 stills '48 Red Skelton is a spy for both sides, pretty Arlene Dahl Date Sold 1/17/2013 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 11 Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Stills (Learn More) Southern Yankee (also released in English-speaking countries as "My Hero!"), the 1948 Edward Sedgwick Civil War military romantic comedy ("He's a spy for both sides!"; "Spy with Red Skelton"; "MGM's laugh-packed comedy!"; "From an original story by Melvin Frank and Norman Panama") starring Red Skelton, Brian Donlevy, Arlene Dahl, George Coulouris, Lloyd Gough, John Ireland, and Minor Watson. Note that Buster Keaton worked (uncredited) on this film helping produce a lot of the sight gags! Finally, note that the movie was directed by Edward Sedgwick, who had not worked with Skelton on his previous movies (S. Sylvan Simon had directed most of them). After the movie was mostly completed, Skelton was not happy with the result, and he called in Simon to reshoot many of the scenes. This resulted in an odd situation with the billing for this movie. There is some movie paper that credits Sedgwick as the director, some that credits Simon as the director, and some that originally credited Simon, but has a studio-issued snipe glued over that area changing the director's credit to Sedgwick!
