eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 6b232 SYLVIA SCARLETT LC 1935 Cary Grant grabs Katharine Hepburn dressed as a boy, ultra rare! Date Sold 5/1/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Sylvia Scarlett, the 1935 George Cukor Europe romantic smuggling embezzling crime comedy (based on the novel by Compton MacKenzie; about a father who goes to England to escape charges in France, he brings his daughter with him but disguises her as a boy and they successfully go on a crime spree with no one recognizing them until the girl meets a handsome young man and falls in love!) starring Katharine Hepburn (in the title role as Sylvia Scarlett), Cary Grant, Brian Aherne, Edmund Gwenn, Robert Adair, and Princess Natalie Paley (she was a Russian noblewoman who had a claim to being a Princess, but the Russian Revolution ended that; she married a Frenchman and appeared in a handful of French and U.S. movies; later, she moved to America and lived there until her passing in 1981). Note that as noted above, Katharine Hepburn masquerades as a boy in the early part of the movie, and being a dedicated thespian, Miss Hepburn actually had her hair cut short, because wearing a wig would have detracted from the quality of her performance! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1936 movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only auctioned a jumbo window card (that was heavily trimmed) from this movie until we received this lobby card, which is the first one we have auctioned, and it has a wonderful image with both Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn! Note that there is a stamp on the back that reads "FROM THE COLLECTION OF Michael R. Hawks", who most would consider the premier lobby card collector and expert in the world (and he is still an active collector, looking for the last few items he needs!). Condition: very good to fine. The card has some tiny stains in the top left edge of the top blank border. It had a 1/2" tear in the center of the top blank border, which someone glued from the back. It had a tiny circular tear in the upper left blank border, and someone put a small piece of tape on the back of that area. It has a tiny pinhole in the upper left blank border and some tiny faint stains in the center of the top and bottom blank borders. Other than these defects, which are all pretty minor, and all in the borders, the card is in really nice condition (see our images)! Learn More about condition grades
