I'm high-powered director Robert Altman, and I'm here on location filming my latest high-powered movie, 'The Long Goodbye!'"; "The film is full of fun-murder, maiming, drunkenness, infidelity, topless yoga freaks, four-letter words- EVERYTHING! Like my first big success, M*A*S*H, it's got the same key ingredient!"; "What's that?"; "Good taste!"; "Here's our star Elliott Gould! Elliott plays Phillip Marlowe, a hard-bitten cynical private eye trying to solve an incredible mystery!"; "With so many other actors around, why did you pick me??"; "That's the mystery!"; "This is Nina van Pallandt who portrays a femme fatale involved in a deceptive plot of shadowy intrigue!"; "How do you want me to play it?"; "From memory!"; "And here's Jim Bouton in the role of Terry Lennox, a small-time mug! You'll enjoy watching Jim strike out on a new career!"; "Strike out?? Is that a clever reference to my one-time skill as a baseball pitcher??"; "No, as an actor!"; "Finally we've got Sterling Hayden as a deranged novelist, 'Laugh-In's' Henry Gibson as a quack and psychiatrist and Mark Rydell as a sadistic mobster who disfigures helpless women!"; "Like I said 'The Long Goodbye' is a fun movie!"; "'I have two friends in the world. One is a cat. The other is a murderer.' -Elliott Gould as Philip Marlowe"; "'Nothing says goodbye like a bullet...'- Philip Marlowe"; "*Philip Marlowe - The greatest of all 'private eye' characters - created by Raymond Chandler"; "Based on the novel by Raymond Chandler"; with music by John Williams) starring Elliott Gould, Nina Van Pallandt, Sterling Hayden, Mark Rydell, Henry Gibson, David Arkin, Jim Bouton, and Arnold Schwarzenegger (uncredited in his second movie role as a hood!). Note that this film was first released in early 1973 but withdrawn shortly after so that the marketing could be revised and new posters created for a late 1973 release. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Vic Fair Important Added Info: Note that surprisingly, this movie had four very different ad campaigns that resulted in four different one-sheets! The domestic posters had Richard Amsel art of Elliott Gould standing with a cat on his shoulder by a door with a dog and a woman in it, while the international posters had Vic Fair art of Elliott Gould pointing a gun. There is an incredibly rare style that shows a close up of Gould with a scared cat on his shoulder, which I have been told is not by Amsel. I have been told that when the movie did poorly in its very first showings, a "comic" one-sheet with artwork by Jack Davis was quickly commissioned and released, but I don't have verification of that. If anyone knows more about these posters, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that this poster was stamped "FOREIGN" which means it was printed for use outside the United States (there would also have been posters stamped "DOMESTIC" for use within the United States). Often, the "FOREIGN" posters would have a different (sometimes racier) image than that for the one used in the United States. Condition: good to very good. The poster was tri-folded only. The folds have slightly darkened (see our image) and there are some creases at the center of the folds. There are light creases in a few areas. It is otherwise in pretty nice condition and after a simple linenbacking the poster will look great! Learn More about condition grades
