An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) John Brophy's Immortal Sergeant, the 1943 John Stahl World War II (WWII) military romantic melodrama (based on the novel by John Brophy; about a Canadian soldier in the British army in North Africa, and he worries about his girl back home and how he will do when his mentor, a tough sergeant, is killed in action) starring Henry Fonda, Maureen O'Hara, Thomas Mitchell, Allyn Joslyn, Reginald Gardiner, Melville Cooper, Bramwell Fletcher, and Morton Lowry. Note that Henry Fonda was made "Canadian" in this movie to explain why he was the only one without an English accent, and that immediately after this movie, Fonda (not unlike Mister Roberts) enlisted in the Army so that he could actually play a role in the real war. After he got out, he played Mister Roberts on stage, and ended up in that role for six years, and over 1,600 performances! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had a piece of tape on the back of the top and middle crossfolds and creases and tiny tears in the vertical foldline between the top and middle crossfolds. There were some creases, tears, and tiny areas of paper loss in the top quarter of the vertical foldline. There was an extra slightly diagonal foldline below the left half of the regular top and bottom horizontal foldlines. There were some pinholes, creases, and tears around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
