An Original 1958 (from the first release of this movie in Russia) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Russian Movie Poster (measures 26" x 38") (Learn More) Kanal, the classic 1957 (released in the U.S. in 1961) Andrzej Wajda Polish World War II (WWII) military Polish-resistance-against-the-Nazis melodrama (about the Warsaw Uprising in Poland circa July 1944 after the Normandy invasion, and the amazing struggle by the Polish Home Army against insurmountable odds) starring Teresa Berezowska, Teresa Izewska, Tadeusz Janczar, Emil Karewicz, and Wienczyslaw Gunski. Note that the crushing of the Warsaw Ghetto (during which the Jews in Warsaw were killed or taken to concentration camps), occurred in 1943. The following year, the Polish resistance fighters in Warsaw were told that the Russian army would liberate them, and so they set out to begin the liberation before that time, by revolting against the Nazis, with the hope that they would control the city by the time the Russians arrived. But they were massively outnumbered, and it was soon apparent they could not win. At that time, the Russians ceased to advance, and England and the U.S. did not help the resistance fighters, and virtually all of them were killed by the Nazis, and this movie tells that horrific story. Also note that director Andrzej Wajda had made a feature film, "Pokolenie" (A Generation), in 1955 after having made several short films, and that film got him well known. This movie made him known all over the world, and he had a long distinguished career after it, making 56 films, and remaining in Poland (and he just made another movie in 2016!). Artist: Tsarev Condition: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the center crossfold and creases and some tiny surface paper loss on parts of other foldlines. There were slightly diagonal creases just below the left 1/4 of the middle fold and two slightly diagonal creases to the right of the bottom half of the left vertical foldline. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, but the restorer did not do much touch up on the foldlines (it is not very distracting, and any restorer could easily perform additional touch up without re-backing the poster).
