An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Thunderbolt!, the 1947 John Sturges & William Wyler World War II (WWII) action melodrama documentary (about the P-47 Thunderbolt fighter aircraft and its use in missions over Europe and the Pacific Theatre in the Second World War) featuring James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart), Lloyd Bridges, and Robert Lowery. Note that this is a fascinating and mostly forgotten movie, except by film and war buffs. William Wyler and John Sturges were two of the many Hollywood celebrities who served in World War II, making war movies. In 1944, Wyler made the wonderful war documentary "The Memphis Belle", and this movie was intended to be a follow-up. Filming began in the middle of 1944, with specially outfitted Thunderbolt fighter planes that had multiple cameras on them. But much of the footage shot on the planes was unusable, and Wyler intended to return to a studio and complete the film out of all that he had shot, but then he suffered hearing loss and dizziness from flying in unpressurized planes, and the project was set aside. After the war ended, Wyler returned to this movie, and finished it in 1946, but could not find a distributor for it. Finally, in 1947, Monogram Pictures agreed to distribute it, and gave 25% of the profits to a charity and 25% to the U.S. government. An introduction to the movie was filmed, with Jimmy Stewart, who himself had served in World War II. Lloyd Bridges provided the voice of one of the pilots. It apparently had a somewhat limited release in 1947, and movie paper from that release is extremely rare! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
