eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 5a0140 CABIN IN THE SKY insert 1943 great montage of Lena Horne, Rochester & black cast, rare! Date Sold 7/12/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Cabin in the Sky, the 1943 Vincente Minnelli black African American musical ("At last on the screen! The musical comedy sensation!"; "Entertainment galore! Gorgeous girls! Songs!"; "The Sensational Broadway Musical!"; "What a Cast!"; "Brilliant cast of entertainers"' one of the first major all-black movies from a major studio, intended to be shown to both white and black audiences) starring Ethel Waters ("Famed Torch Singer"), Eddie 'Rochester' Anderson ( "Funnier Than Ever"), Lena Horne ("Gorgeous Song-Bird"), Louis Armstrong, Rex Ingram (as Lucifer Jr.), Duke Ellington & His Orchestra, The Hall Johnson Choir, Willie Best, Mantan Moreland, Kenneth Spencer, John William Sublett (as Bubbles), Ford Washington Lee (as Buck), and Oscar Polk. Note that Sublett and Lee appeared together in a number of movies as "Buck and Bubbles". NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only once before auctioned this insert, and it sold for $666! Also note that the main image of this insert is a great montage of the lead characters, with a large sexy image of Lena Horne, but there is also much artwork scattered throughout the poster. Al Hirschfeld did a full artwork one-sheet for this movie, but we don't know if he did the art on this insert, or if it is the work of another artist. If anyone knows for certain either way, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that while this poster could conceivably be rolled, it is very old, and it would not make sense to roll it, as rolling it would have a good chance of damaging it. Therefore we will send it in a very large flat package, unless the new owner insists on us rolling it and will accept responsibility for the chance of damage. Please bear that extra shipping cost in mind BEFORE placing a bid on this poster! Condition: good. The poster was never folded. It has many smudges, faint stains, and some pinholes around the edges. It had a tear in the lower right border and four small tears near the bottom of the right blank border, and someone put paper tape on the back of those areas. Since most of the defects are around the edges, the poster can be displayed as it is, or certainly, restoration can be performed, and it is likely that much or all of the stains and smudges can be removed chemically. Either way, the new owner will have a rare and desirable poster to display on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
