An Original Vintage Movie Script (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm], 191 pages) (Learn More)

Ernest Hemingway's A Farewell to Arms, the 1958 Charles Vidor World War I (WWI) military romantic melodrama ("Based on the novel by Ernest Hemingway and the play by Laurence Stallings"; "Produced by David O. Selznick"; "Screenplay by Ben Hecht"; there was an earlier version of this movie with Gary Cooper and Helen Hayes) starring Rock Hudson, Jennifer Jones, Vittorio De Sica (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Oscar Homolka, and Mercedes McCambridge. Note that originally, John Huston was scheduled to direct this movie. However, he wanted the producer, David O. Selznick, to give him a bigger budget, and he left the movie after a few months. Charles Vidor took over and finished the movie.

Important Added Info: Note that this script is from October 22, 1956 and the screenplay was written by Ben Hecht. The first interior page has a form that was to be signed by the person receiving the script and it had perforations in the bottom one-third of that page (and they are true perforations, and NOT a photocopied page). This was the way the studio kept track of who had these scripts! Note that this script contains 191 pages, whereas a script we are also auctioning from the next year has 173 pages, indicating that it was shortened. This script was obtained from the Selznick archive.

Condition: very good to fine. The script is in excellent condition!
