Date Sold 1/4/2015 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 8 Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Stills (Learn More) The Great McGinty, the classic 1940 Preston Sturges political crooked politics screwball comedy starring Brian Donlevy (in the title role as Dan McGinty), Muriel Angelus, Akim Tamiroff, Allyn Joslyn, and William Demarest. Note that this movie was originally intended to be released in the U.S. with the title "Down Went McGinty", but at the last minute was changed to "The Great McGinty" (it was SO "last minute" that U.S. one-sheet posters were actually printed with "Down Went McGinty" on them, and giant snipes were glued over that area)! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that these stills appear in every way to be original U.S. release EXCEPT that there is one very tiny line of French type in the lower right of each still. It reads, "IMPRIME AUX ETATS-UNIS D'AMERIQUE". A collector has told us that he believes this means the stills were printed for use in areas that included French-speaking parts of Canada, but that they WERE printed in the U.S., and that makes complete sense to us (and we have seen this on stills from the 1940s through the early 2000s, so it has certainly been done for an extremely long time)! So they are original stills from 1940, but they were printed partially for use in French-speaking Canada. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
